Kohonen showed his skills to home audience

Finland - Sweden national team challenge "Finnkampen" ended with men's match. 2.556 spectators were to witness team's 2-2 (0-1, 2-1, 0-0) draw. One of better players of the evening was Mika Kohonen who equalised to Finland in power play and succeeded also in the penalty shoot-out after the match.


The opening goal of the match was seen late in the first period as David Gillek of Sweden went pass two Finnish defenders and put the ball to the topcorner past goalie Jani Naumanen.Finland equalised in the second period with Harri Forsten delivering a nice pass behind the goal directly to Juho Järvinen, who placed the ball into the net.

Mattias Wallgren was sitting on the penalty bench when Finland took the lead. Henri Johansson, who debuted in national team tonight delivered and  Mika Kohonen scored with experience from 120 national team matches. However, it wasn't enough for the victory tonight, since Rasmus Enström scored for Sweden just before the second break.


Neihter of the teams were able to score in the third period, and the match was a drawe. In penalty shoot-out the situation was after four pairs still tie 1-1, as Mika Kohonen succeeded for Finland and Peder Boden for Sweden. In the fifth pair Henrik Stenberg, a rather fresh U19 men World Champion placed the ball past Jarno Ihme, and Henri Johansson missed the target.


- First period was nervous, but in the second game got better. Defencive play today was good, but we couldn't score enough. The event was important possibility to see how were are doing. We got answers to some questions in my mind, and some new ones came along the way. Every training and friendly match are aiming at winning World Champiohip Gold in December, tells Finnish head coach Petteri Nykky after the match.
